Description
Hong Kong introduces a bill to recognise limited rights for same-sex couples for its first and second reading in the legislature, despite fears that opposition from pro-Beijing parties could sink it.
Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang urges lawmakers to be "objective and pragmatic" when deliberating the bill, which proposes to recognise some rights for same-sex partners whose marriages are registered abroad.
Despite LGBTQ activists arguing it does not go far enough, the proposal drew near-universal criticism from the pro-Beijing politicians that dominate Hong Kong's legislature. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
