Description
If US President Donald Trump "ends up imposing tariffs, a lot of people will lose their jobs, stores will end up closing," warns Juliana, a saleswoman on 25 de Marco, Brazil's largest and busiest shopping street.
The area has been singled out in a US report as "one of the largest markets for counterfeit goods".
"Here, there are many people who work honestly," explains vendor Anderson Ferreira. "Yes, there's piracy, but it's not like it used to be, it has decreased, and the police don't allow it."
The United States said it was investigating Brazil's "unfair trading practices" in a further escalation after President Donald Trump announced a 50-percent tariff on Brazilian products for what he said was a "witch hunt" against his far-right ally, ex-president Jair Bolsonaro. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
