Description
A lack of running water, unsanitary conditions and poverty: Pakadjuma, a neighbourhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital Kinshasa, is struggling to contain a deadly surge in cholera cases. At the local treatment centre, some of the sick arrive on foot while the weakest are carried in by relatives, with the majority of patients put on perfusion, and forced to do their needs on site. Currently, 21 African countries are affected by cholera outbreaks, according to Africa CDC, the health agency of the African Union.
