Description
As Israeli settlers swim in a pool Palestinians say they seized near the Ein Samiyah wells, on the eastern plains of the West Bank village of Kafr Malik, Wafiq Hamdan, a resident of the nearby village of Dura al-Qaraa, pushes a cart full of empty bottles to fill water from a local spring. Settlers have recently attacked the system of wells, pumps and pipelines in the area. The attack is one of several recent incidents in which settlers have been accused of damaging, diverting or seizing control of Palestinian water sources. The Ein Samiyah spring, which feeds a pumping station, is the main or backup water source for some 110,000 people, according to the Palestinian company that manages it. "When you restrict water on certain areas, people simply move where water is available" says one Palestinian official. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
