Description
Passion fruit, guava, dragon fruit or kiwano -- climate change is sparking Albanian farmers to start growing exotic fruits to sell to Europe. Though rising temperatures and a worker shortage have taken their toll on agriculture, farmers like Irakli Shkoza are adapting to reap some benefit by diversifying their crops. “It is extremely useful for Albanian farmers to start growing these plants as they are favoured by the climate and the market,” he says. However, transport of the fruit to Europe has a cost, both financially and in freshness. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
