Description
One of the biggest pro wrestling shows of the year is happening this Saturday at Globe Life Field, and one wrestler, and social media star, is planning to bring the boom.
Andrew "A.J." Befumo Jr., also known as Big Boom AJ, is best known as one of the Costco Guys, uploading humorous videos with his son Big Justice, along with The Rizzler, to TikTok. But what many may not know is Befumo was once a full-time wrestler. Befumo says that, about 25 years ago, he was often wrestling three times a weekend on the New Jersey independent wrestling circuit for about five years.
"It was a great time to be a wrestler," Befumo said. "Anywhere you looked you could find a show. The crowds where exciting and that's what it's always been about. It's always been about the connection with the audience."
This Saturday, Befumo will be teaming with Tomohiro Ishii, Kyle O'Reilly and Hologram to take on the Don Callis Family's Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero, Hechicero and Dallas' own Lance Archer. The match is set for AEW All In: Texas' Zero Hour, which is the pre-show that will air for free on YouTube live before the pay-per-view starts.
"I didn't know this was the path but I always did feel in my heart I would be wrestling in a big arena one day, making people happy," Befumo said. "I didn't know I was gonna be 49 years old with Big Justice and the Rizzler by my side at Globe Life Field."
It's his years of experience as a pro wrestler that helped Befumo to build his brand on social media today.
"Because when you're a pro wrestler, you start to learn what the audience is looking to you for, what you bring to the show, and it's the same thing with social media," he said. "When you learn what to bring in the pro wrestling world, you learn to bring that also to your audience on social media."
