Description
A deacon who helped prevent what authorities say could have been a mass shooting by using his truck to strike a gunman outside a Michigan church has received a new Ford F-150.
Richard Pryor was handed the keys to the new pickup Thursday at a Detroit-area dealership.
Pryor had arrived late to a June 22 morning service at CrossPointe Community Church when he saw Brian Browning driving recklessly. Browning was wearing a tactical vest and carrying firearms when he exited his car before being struck by Pryor’s F-150. He shot at Pryor’s vehicle and continued firing as he approached the church, wounding one person. Members of the Wayne church’s security staff fatally shot Browning.
The new pickup is on a two-year lease and valued at about $70,000. That’s according to Matthew Demmer, the dealership's owner and general manager.
"I can't be more than enough thankful for everybody's support,” Pryor said just before being handed the key fob to the new F-150.
The church’s pastor has called Pryor a hero.
“The attacker’s intended tragedy did not occur,” Pryor said. “I think a lot of the potential trauma — we're not dealing with that.”
Demmer said gifting the pickup to Pryor is “the perfect way to give back.”
“Could have been a heckuva lot worse,” Demmer said of the shooting.
