Description
Top Trump administration officials came to Capitol Hill to brief lawmakers about President Donald Trump’s decision to bomb three Iranian nuclear sites.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dan Kaine are expected to give the classified briefing to senators on Thursday.
Coming out of the briefing, Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R) South Carolina, praised the success of operation Midnight Hammer.
“Operation Midnight Hammer was brilliant, it was bold, it was necessary and it was effective. They blew these places up in a major league way. Major league setback. Years, not months,” Graham said.
But some Democrats came out with a different assessment.
Sen. Chris Murphy, (D) Connecticut, said the set back to Iran’s nuclear program appeared to be months.
“Listen, to me it still appears that we have only set back the Iranian nuclear program by a handful of months. There's no doubt there was damage done to the program, but the allegations that we have obliterated their program just don't seem to stand up to reason,” Murphy said.
Meantime, the Senate is expected to vote this week on a resolution that would require congressional approval if Trump were to order another strike on Iran.
