Description
As more people hit the road across central Ohio, a new report from Allstate is highlighting just how safe Columbus drivers are.
The new numbers released this week are created from the number of property and collision damage Claims reported from January 2022 to December 2023 in the U.S.

While Columbus made the list of the top 200 cities with the safest drivers, compared to 2015, it went down 22 slots to 141, sitting in between New York City and Detroit. Other Ohio cities like Cleveland and Toledo showed a similar trend — all contributing to the Midwest gaining more unsafe drivers.
"I see a lot of distracted drivers. I try and do the hands hands-free, but I don't see it. I see a lot of people doing makeup, with their cell phone, or eating. Just cutting me off a lot," said Tony Montovano.
Looking at this report as a whole, Columbus isn't in the worst spot when it comes to dangerous driving. According to statistics from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, crash fatalities are actually down from this time last year.
"I see a lot of people are on their phones. They're flying around in and out of traffic," said Janet Fowler.
But safety concerns still remain high, especially among high traffic areas and throughout construction zones.
Statistics from OSHP show while Ohio's distracted driving law is working, so far this year, Franklin County has more than double the number of distracted driving violations compared to every other county in Ohio.
