Description
A 73-year-old woman has died after officials say she was stabbed Sunday night at a park in the Greater Carrollwood area.
Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of the stabbing just before 7:00 p.m. at Country Run Park on Pepperfield Drive. After arriving, they learned that Manual Gonzalez, 70, and Alida M. Simmons had been in a dispute.
Both were taken to a local hospital for serious injuries. In an update on Monday, deputies confirmed that Simmons had died from her injuries.
Meanwhile, HCSO said Gonzalez was charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a weapon and armed kidnapping. As of Monday morning, he remains in the hospital.
"This violent incident, in a place meant for families and children, is both disturbing and unacceptable," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Our detectives are committed to uncovering the full truth behind this tragic incident. If anyone has information that could assist in this investigation, I urge you to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office."
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has more information on the case to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200.
An investigation is ongoing.
