A 73-year-old woman has died after officials say she was stabbed Sunday night at a park in the Greater Carrollwood area. Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of the stabbing just before 7:00 p.m. at Country Run Park on Pepperfield Drive. After arriving, they learned that Manual Gonzalez, 70, and Alida M. Simmons had been in a dispute. Both were taken to a local hospital for serious injuries. In an update on Monday, deputies confirmed that Simmons had died from her injuries. Meanwhile, HCSO said Gonzalez was charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a weapon and armed kidnapping. As of Monday morning, he remains in the hospital. "This violent incident, in a place meant for families and children, is both disturbing and unacceptable," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Our detectives are committed to uncovering the full truth behind this tragic incident. If anyone has information that could assist in this investigation, I urge you to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office."
