Description
If you're driving around Raymond James Stadium this weekend, make sure to bring your patience along with your Metallica t-shirts or Rays gear.
Tampa officials released a traffic advisory for Friday through Sunday, warning drivers of heavy traffic around Steinbrenner Filed and Raymond James Stadium.
The Rays take on the Marlins at 1:10 p.m. Friday while Metallica's M72 World Tour concert kicks off at 6 p.m. But, parking lots for the concert open at noon with gates opening at 4 p.m.
"Drivers should anticipate congestion as baseball fans leave, and concertgoers arrive," the news release said.
There is no concert on Saturday, but on Sunday there is another baseball game plus Metallica's second concert. The Rays will play just after noon and Metallica will perform again at 6 p.m., so drivers should expect around round of heavy traffic.
Again, the lots open at noon with gates opening at 4 p.m.
Roads closed for Metallica concerts
Officials expect more than 65,000 people to arrive on Friday and Sunday afternoon for the concert alone. Drivers who aren't going to the concert should take alternate roads.
The main roads around the stadium that are expected to be congested are Dale Mabry, Himes, Columbus and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Tom McEwen Boulevard, also known as Tampa Bay Boulevard, will be closed between Dale Mabry and Himes Avenue from 11 a.m. Friday until traffic clears after the Sunday show.
A heavy law enforcement presence will be present around Raymond James Stadium to help direct traffic.
