Millions in federal funds are slated to help Hillsborough County and other parts of the Tampa Bay area recover from devastating storms. County officials are expecting to receive $709 million in disaster recovery funds through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant program. They're aimed to assist with recovery and mitigation efforts related to hurricanes within the last two years, including Helene and Milton. The county held its first of several public meetings at Pierce Middle School on Wednesday night. "I’m really concerned about this new hurricane season, and I’m not even back in my home yet," said Luisa Leto of Town 'n' Country. Leto was one of dozens who attended and voiced concerns over what they said was a need for more drainage solutions in their respective neighborhoods. Other concerns shared included infrastructure issues neighbors state exacerbated flooding in their homes. "Last year when the hurricanes came, we had a lot of flooding at Hillsborough and Hanley Road. We had a lot of cars underwater," said Russell Habel of Town 'n' Country.
