July 8 on The Story: A research firm tapped to produce a series of annual evaluations of the Portland metro area's response to homelessness just released its third and final report, looking at the money being spent to address the crisis and where those funds are ending up. ECOnorthwest was commissioned to produce these reports beginning in 2022, tallying up funds spent at every level, from the federal government down to cities and private donors. In the 2023-24 fiscal year, that funding totaled $700 million in just the greater Portland area and just to address different aspects of homelessness, the report found. Meanwhile, there's still not a coherent regional strategy.
