July 1 on The Story: The city of Portland's unarmed solution for dealing with non-violent crisis calls may finally have the support to expand — just as previous city leaders once intended, but never got around to doing. Last week, the city council passed a resolution establishing Portland Street Response as an equal branch of the city's public safety system and enshrining some of their original principals. It also pledges that PSR will be a citywide, 24/7 service. While it isn't the first time the council has voted to do that last bit, the agency now theoretically has the funding — and the support — to expand. But the plan is not without critics on city council.
