Description
June 19 on The Story: Like Oregon, the state of Washington has its own sanctuary law — barring state and local law enforcement from sharing info with federal immigration authorities. In the community of Sunnyside, that's largely treated as a blessing. The vast majority of residents are Hispanic, and many of them have friends, family or neighbors who are undocumented. There, it is the sudden presence of the federal government's agents which are treated as an intrusion. But in neighboring Klickitat County, Sheriff Bob Songer says he's happy to "be on speed dial" for ICE as they conduct their raids.
