Description
June 18 on The Story: Since voters passed the measure that established it back in 2020, the Metro Supportive Housing Services tax has come to fund a major share of all homeless services in the tri-county area, greatly expanding efforts to open shelters, run outreach and connect people with housing or other forms of care. The tax is set to expire in 2030, but leaders of the Metro regional government recognize that the date is coming up faster than it might seem, and they're pushing to both renew the tax and reform it. However, a new poll suggests that support for renewal of the SHS tax this November may be eroding, as voters feel that those funds have not delivered on what they expected back in 2020.
