Description
The city of Tigard held its Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration at Cook Family Park on Saturday. The event began with a one mile walk around the park, followed by food, music and family-friendly games. Juneteenth marks the day that enslaved African Americans living in Galveston, Texas 160 years ago learned they had been freed — after the Civil War's end and two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
