Description
June 11 on The Story: After years of discussion and planning, Multnomah County is finally moving forward on a 24/7 sobering center where first responders can drop off people who are highly intoxicated from substances. It's now not expected to open until 2027 — which is not a timeline anyone involved really wanted to see — but it does have substantial backing from the state of Oregon. County leaders also anticipated financial support from the city of Portland, but all of sudden that's not forthcoming. The mayor's office says they'll contribute once the place is up and running, but county commissioners say the ball is already rolling on their sobering program, and the money is spending.
