Authorities in Rush County confirmed a child died after a Thursday afternoon house fire in Arlington. According to the sheriff's department, first responders were called around 2 p.m. June 5 to a fire reported in a home in the 2000 block of North County Road 700 West. When crews arrived, they found the structure engulfed in flames and learned that a child was still inside the home. Efforts to save the child proved unsuccessful, the sheriff's department said, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
