Authorities in Rush County confirmed a child died after a Thursday afternoon house fire in Arlington.
According to the sheriff's department, first responders were called around 2 p.m. June 5 to a fire reported in a home in the 2000 block of North County Road 700 West.
When crews arrived, they found the structure engulfed in flames and learned that a child was still inside the home.
Efforts to save the child proved unsuccessful, the sheriff's department said, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child's identity is not being released, pending notification of relatives, authorities said.
