Description
The 10 Weather Impact Alert Team has issued an Impact Day for late Wednesday for the threat of strong to severe storms.
As of right now, here's what we know:
The threat currently would be after 6 pm and could last until just after midnight for a line of storms to develop and move in from the west. Precise timing and intensity will come into focus once the storms start forming.
The main concern for any severe storms that develop will be for damaging wind gusts but storms could also produce hail, and brief, isolated tornadoes.
Storms that develop after dark are extremely dangerous as you will not be able to see them coming until they develop and arrive. It's important with the threat of overnight severe activity to have more than one way to get warnings - on your phone and also having a NOAA weather radio.
Showers may linger into early Thursday, and an isolated shower is possible in the afternoon, but as drier air works in behind the system, the day will end with comfortable temperatures and dry.
Then our attention turns to the heat. Friday will be seasonal, with a rapid warm-up starting Saturday.
I will be dangerous to be outdoors for longer periods of time starting on Sunday and going through the start of next week, with the heat index climbing to near 100 in the afternoon. So start planning now on how you and your family are going to stay cool and safe!
The next chance of rain & storms isn't until Tuesday, at which time the heat wave should begin to break.
