Description
Crews with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) battled a large two-alarm fire at a salvage yard in Tampa on Saturday. Officials say one person has been taken to a local trauma center in serious condition with burn injuries.
The fire was reported just after 3:00 p.m. Saturday off of Jensen Road. HCFR said multiple 911 calls came in about a forklift that caught on fire and the flames quickly spread to numerous nearby vehicles.
About 20 cars were reportedly engulfed in "intense flames" when crews first arrived at the scene.
"Crews initially faced water supply challenges but were able to establish a continuous flow to support two aerial trucks used to suppress the fire from above," HCFR said in a press release.
The fire was largely under control about one hour into operations. As of 5:10 p.m., officials say the fire has been declared extinguished, but crews remain on scene.
No injuries were reported to first responders.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
