Description
Fire crews and Pinellas County deputies are responding to St. Pete Beach after three people were struck by lightning on the Fourth of July.
St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched just after 12:15 p.m. to the public beach access at 4700 Gulf Boulevard.
Deputy Fire Chief Adam Poirrier said crews arrived within three minutes of the call to find a family of three "that appeared to be struck by lightning while under an umbrella on the beach."
While at the scene, crews treated two adults who refused further medical treatment. A 17-year-old girl was transported to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma alert.
According to St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue, 13 personnel were at the scene along with four units from Sunstar Paramedics.
