Ukrainians respond with a mix of scepticism, resignation and muted hope in Kyiv to talks held in Washington between President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, as ongoing Russian strikes overshadow any immediate sense of progress. "As I understand it, Russia wants peace, but only if we give it some territory," says Ostap Shavel, a 32-year-old wrestler and landscape designer in Kyiv. "Most Ukrainians are against that.
