Description
Lying in hospital beds after sustaining bullet wounds during violent anti-corruption demonstrations in Kathmandu, protesters Aditya Rawal and Subash Dhakal are hopeful that the lives lost and injuries suffered will lead to lasting change in Nepal's fight against corruption.
At least 72 people were killed during the "Gen Z" anti-corruption rallies this week that also saw parliament and key government buildings set on fire.
"Many Nepalis have sustained bullet injuries, and many others were killed during this protest. Their blood should not be in vain," 19-year-old Dhakal tells AFP.
Fellow protester Rawal, 22, who shares the same ward with Dhakal at the Civil Service Hospital in Nepal's capital, adds that he has "no regrets" about taking part in the uprising.
"I have done it not only for me. It was for everyone, from my family, to all brothers. This pain is ephemeral, but this [protest] will definitely bring about some changes," Rawal says. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
