Description
Visitors from mainland China used to bolster Hong Kong's economy by spending in luxury goods stores, but many in recent years have ditched shopping in favour of snapping photos at social media hotspots including some of the city's most iconic natural scenery. The trend has led environmental campaigners to sound the alarm about the threat of overtourism. "Ecotourism is different from mass tourism or theme parks" as it must balance development with sustainability, says Ha Shun-kuen of Greenpeace Hong Kong. "We have to be very cautious and avoid putting the cart in front of the horse." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
