France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other Western allies are set to formally recognise a Palestinian state at the United Nations summit co-chaired by Riyadh and Paris on September 22 in New York, a move described as "a gamble" for French authorities by DC-based Middle East expert Souhire Medini, who underlines the "ambiguity" of the American position. "When you go back to the first Trump administration, the vision of peace included a Palestinian state... So we can't say that Trump is against a Palestinian state," Medini tells AFPTV.
