Description
Three decades of conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have left women and girls still falling victim to horrific mutilations used as weapons of war. The film Muganga - The One Who Cares (French: Muganga – Celui qui soigne), to be released in France on Wednesday 24 September, aims to shine a light on this "neglected humanitarian crisis". "The war in the DRC is a forgotten war," says renowned Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, whose fight inspired the film, in an interview with AFP in Paris. The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize laureate has devoted his life to treating women who have suffered rape and sexual mutilation in North and South Kivu (eastern DRC). IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
