Description
Every morning, Martina Grifaldo logs onto Facebook with a message for Houston's Latino migrant community: a warning about possible immigration raids. "Good morning, take care of yourselves and get home safely," she writes in Spanish to her 171,000 followers. Alongside fellow activist Francisco Mendoza, she manages a page that shares real-time alerts - photos and videos submitted by community members - to help migrants avoid detention. Since President Donald Trump returned to power in January and renewed his immigration crackdown, federal authorities have stepped up detentions of undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, and even Latino US citizens and permanent residents. "We see them, we see how they treat our people we feel... terrorized, because at any time it could happen to us," says the head of Disaster Management at Alianza Latina Internacional.
