At the Paris Opera, Iranian-American artist Shirin Neshat has reimagined Verdi's Aida with a staging "relevant to the time that we're living in". Her production confronts audiences with the harsh realities of war, religious fanaticism and oppression, and aims not just to showcase the beauty of the music, but to leave spectators shaken, while drawing parallels with today's conflicts.
