Description
Peeling back another layer of the Dutch painter Rembrandt's world famous Night Watch, experts at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum have discovered what they believe to be the inspiration for the figure of a dog nestled in the painting's bottom corner. "It was very unexpected," says Anne Lenders, Rijksmuseum's curator of 17th-Century Dutch Painting, who stumbled across an illustration by another artist, Adriaen van de Venne, that bore a striking resemblance to Rembrandt's dog.
