Description
As the EU prepares to launch a long-delayed new border-check system for non-EU nationals in October, rail and road operators at the UK-France border give demonstrations of their new scanning systems. The so-called Entry/Exit System (EES) will keep track of overstays and refused entries by collecting travellers' biometric data -- facial images and fingerprints. Under the phased rollout, EU members should be operating the system at half of border crossing points after three months and have it fully deployed at six. "Everything is prepared and everything has been tested," says Yann Leriche, CEO of Getlink, who is "absolutely confident that it will be a success in October." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
