Police in riot gear arrested several protestors Wednesday night in Los Angeles after the second night of the city’s downtown curfew went into effect. The protests over President Trump's stepped-up enforcement of immigration laws intensified after Trump called up the National Guard to the city. Protests have since spread to other cities, including Boston, Chicago and Seattle. And more protests are scheduled for this weekend as Trump stages a military parade in Washington. President Donald Trump's use of troops to help carry out intensified immigration raids faces its biggest challenge yet on Thursday, when a federal judge is set to weigh a request from California Gov. Gavin Newsom to put an emergency stop to the practice. Newsom has warned that the military intervention is part of a broader effort by Trump to overturn norms at the heart of the nation’s democracy.
