Description
Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend wants to keep grand jury records secret in the sex trafficking case that sent her to prison.
Associated Press reporter Eric Tucker says Maxwell’s lawyers said so in a court filing Tuesday, writing that Maxwell hasn’t seen the material herself.
“She says the material amounts to hearsay and it's not material that should be seen by the general public,” Tucker said.
The grand jury process is conducted behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, prosecutors are continuing to urge a court to release some of those records in the criminal case-turned-political fireball.
“The mere request to unseal the transcripts is part of the Justice Department's effort to appear transparent, and that's important to the Trump administration as it faces a fierce backlash over an earlier refusal by the department to release a trove of records in their possession,” Tucker said.
