Description
Sponsored by: Kaiser Permanente | For the last 80 years, Kaiser Permanente has been committed to providing high-quality care for all. As an ally and national leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare equality, Kaiser Permanente has strived to eliminate health disparities to create a welcoming environment where all individuals feel respected and valued. Kaiser Permanente Nurse Manager Patryk Paszt joins our Laura Cavanaugh to share how Kaiser Permanente is working to build a healthier future for all.
From the workforce to programs to its membership, inclusivity is at the core in all that they do at Kaiser Permanente.
“We want to make sure we meet the member where they’re at. We want to reduce the health disparities and that includes some of the programs that we have,” said Paszt. “Our telehealth, where you can see a doctor virtually or you can call in for PrEP and your labs you don’t have to go anywhere. That is huge.”
Kaiser Permanente was among the first healthcare providers in the country to offer its employees the option to include domestic partner health benefits.
The Healthcare Equality Index is the national LGBTQ+ benchmarking tool that evaluates healthcare facilities’ policies and practices. For the 13th year in a row, all 39 Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Southern California were honored by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation with the “Leader Status” designation on the Healthcare Equality Index, which is the highest ranking.
“I am not surprised,” said Pazst. “Here at Kaiser Permanente we strive to ensure that all of our employees get specialized training to ensure that we are providing that culturally competent care that is important, especially in the LGBT community, where we feel seen, heard and we feel safe in the space. And that’s at every touchpoint of healthcare.”
Kaiser Permanente is a proud supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community. The organization was founded on the principles of equity, inclusion and diversity and is committed to stand with – and celebrating – all the communities they serve.
