Description
October 4, 1954 Thirty-thousand persons jam the little town of Julian, California for the annual Apple Days parade and celebration. The two-day festival included this hour-long parade, square dancing in the streets and ballroom dancing in the town hall. The parade included nine floats…here, the North Park Toyland Express. There were clowns, two bands and more than 100 horsemen, many in Western and Spanish costumes. Walter Church was awarded for his silver riding habit. Julian was a roaring gold town in the 1870's, and first Apple Day celebration was at the turn of the century.
Here's Channel Eight's Monte Hall, who was Grand Marshal of the mile-long parade. And here's the queen Mrs. Lula Juch. She’s 88, and her father worked for the Butterfield stage line.
