Sponsored by: San Diego Community Power | As summer temperatures rise, so can your energy bill. But implementing a few easy steps can add up to big savings and lower your monthly expenses.
San Diego Community Power is working to bring clean energy to our local communities at the greatest possible value.
Jen Lebron, Director of Public Affairs for San Diego Community Power, joins our Laura Cavanaugh to share energy-efficient tips that can help save you money this summer.
As San Diego’s locally run, not-for-profit clean energy provider, San Diego Community Power is on a mission to procure 100% clean and renewable energy by the year 2035 or sooner, and to do so in a way that is equitable, affordable and sustainable.
“We go out there and get competitively-priced power from places like solar and wind farms to pass those savings on to you,” said Lebron. “We then work with SDG&E to use their poles and wires to deliver that power and provide one consolidated bill to make it easy to use our service. All of this is part of our mission to bring cleaner, greener, more affordable energy to all.”
San Diego Community Power is flipping the switch on the energy marketplace, delivering cleaner and more affordable electricity to nearly a million customers in San Diego County.
They reinvest revenues into San Diego neighborhoods and serve nearly one million customers in San Diego, Chula Vista, Encinitas, Imperial Beach, National City, La Mesa and the unincorporated regions of San Diego County like Julian and Fallbrook.
By bringing competition to the marketplace, Community Power is helping to bring costs down.
“We look for the best deals possible when it comes to buying massive amounts of power from places like solar and wind farms. That way we can lock in those prices to long-term contracts and pass those savings on to our customers,” said Lebron.
In fact, Community Power has lowered energy prices for all of their customers two years in a row.
Utility and electricity rates impact us all in San Diego. That is why San Diego Community Power is working to keep costs down for customers.
As consumers, we can also empower ourselves by taking proactive steps to keep costs down.
When you use energy matters. Try avoiding peak hour usage, which is the most expensive window of time. If you reduce energy consumption from 4-9pm, you can immediately save money.
That means precooling your home, running your washer, dryer and dishwasher before 4pm and after 9pm.
Also, instead of cooking your dinner with the oven or stove, if you cook with your air fryer or microwave, you can save energy.
Another easy step you can take is to reduce vampire energy. Unplug devices and power strips that are not in use.
“Think of unplugging as the new off,” said Lebron. “It means that something like your toaster oven won’t be draining power even when you’re not using it.”
