Description
On Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in protecting and defending our freedoms. A new Ball State University graduate designed a project to build a veterans’ memorial in his Morgan County hometown of Monrovia.
Zach Shomber, 23, had an idea when he was attending Monrovia High School to honor some classmates who had passed away. But renovations at the school made those plans unfeasible. Conversations with town officials led to the desire for Monrovia to have a veterans memorial.
Shomber eventually turned the idea into his architecture thesis project at Ball State. Shomber came up with a grand design with no limit on budget or materials for educational purposes. But he also designed a more reasonable project that could become a reality with community support.
