Instead of fun, the Hughes' family vacation immediately began with tragedy. On Saturday night, a shuttle for a rental car company and a pickup truck crashed at Tower Road and 81st Avenue, Commerce City Police said. Ian Hughes walked away with cuts and bruises. His brother underwent the first of at least two surgeries, Hughes said. His father was ejected from the shuttle and his grandfather died. "It's heartbreaking and traumatizing," Hughes told 9NEWS on Monday.
