Description
July 28 on The Story: A few times within the past several months, we've reported on safety issues around the Multnomah County Central Library in downtown Portland — a report on drug use in the building's restrooms, a deadly shooting that happened across the street, and an incident where a patron pulled a knife while being escorted out for abusive language. These incidents are all tied to the volume of homelessness and drug use in the library's immediate area. Last week, a Multnomah County commissioner wrote to city of Portland leaders, calling on them to provide a more constant police presence in the area in order to cut down on the criminal activity. The response, as you'll see, was to toss the hot potato right back.
