Description
Sept. 25 on The Story: For the first time since he took office in January, Mayor Keith Wilson is considering enforcement of the city's prohibited camping ordinance, adopted by the prior city council last spring. Under that ordinance, police can make arrests of people camping on public property if they refuse offers of shelter, punishable by a fine of up to $100, up to a week in jail, or both. Wilson said this week that he may kickstart enforcement Nov. 1, now that he's succeeded in building up overnight shelter capacity in pursuit of his goal of having a shelter bed "for every Portlander" who wants one by December.
