Sept. 23 on The Story: With summer at an end, the businesses of Portland's downtown core have published the latest statistics on the number of visitors they saw this year — finding 2025 to have been the best summer for downtown since before the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, foot traffic this year was still a far cry from pre-pandemic levels. That's partially due to an enduring drop in visitors, but it's also because there's been little recovery in the number of people working downtown.
