Sept. 16 on The Story: In late 2022, after a running battle with homeless camps on city property, Longview opened Hope Village — a shelter pod site operated by The Salvation Army to offer transitional housing. It has helped dozens of people into some sort of housing since then, according to The Salvation Army. But that comes to an end this month. The city council is done with having taxpayers foot the bill, so they're closing the site until and unless a behavioral health care provider comes along to run it and bill Medicaid. Right now, about half of the village's two-dozen residents have plans of where to go next.
