Description
The Indiana Parole Board is recommending to Indiana Gov. Mike Braun no clemency for the man on death row for killing a Beech Grove police officer, just weeks before his scheduled execution.
Benjamin Ritchie is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection May 20 for the 2000 killing of Ofc. Bill Toney.
In a letter to Gov. Braun dated May 13, the chair of the Indiana Parole Board wrote: "In weighing the factors provided to us by our statutory authority, we have determined that Benjamin Ritchie’s request for clemency does not rise to the level of requiring a commutation of his death sentence."
Lawyers for Ritchie have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene after the Indiana Supreme Court ordered him executed.
