Description
Some of the most anticipated movies of 2025 are sequels to "Avatar," "Wicked" and "Jurassic World." Also on that list is a Western starring Alec Baldwin that the audience has fatefully known about since October 2021.
"Rust" is set in the 1880s as 13-year-old Lucas Hollister (Patrick Scott McDermott) is sentenced to be hanged after he fatally shoots a rancher by accident. The boy goes on the run with his estranged grandfather and notorious outlaw Harland Rust (Alec Baldwin) as they are hunted by U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and ruthless bounty hunter Fenton "Preacher" Lang (Travis Fimmel).
"His performance blows me away and even more so knowing this was his first film," said Hopkins ("Cougar Town," "Quantico") of McDermott ("Goosebumps," "Stranger Things: The First Shadow"). "He immediately goes toe to toe, scene for scene with Alec Baldwin in his first film, and I'm blown away. You're going to hear a lot about this young man. He's already on Broadway now, so get used to his face."
And undoubtedly the largest association for "Rust" prior to its release is the on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
"Rust" opens in theaters and will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms May 2.
