Description
Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith is facing backlash after comments he made about the Three-Fifths Compromise, a 1787 deal tied to the history of slavery in the United States.
In a joint statement, community leaders from the Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis, the Indiana Chapter of the National Action Network and the Baptist Ministers' Alliance called on Beckwith to retract what they describe as "historically inaccurate" and "morally repugnant" comments. They are also urging Gov. Mike Braun’s office to denounce Beckwith’s remarks and ensure that Indiana commits to accurate historical education.
A video was posted Friday to Beckwith’s X page, where he talked about the compromise as being "a great move."
