Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church for the past 12 years, has died at age 88. Francis died Monday morning, April 21 at 7:35 a.m. Central European Summer Time (1:35 a.m. Eastern Time). He had been the pope for 12 years, ascending to the head of the papacy on March 13, 2013.
