Description
Every morning and afternoon, central Indiana drivers hear the familiar voice of Matt Bair guiding them through traffic jams and morning and evening commutes. But for years, the WIBC-FM personality was quietly navigating his own difficult journey — fighting a battle far more dangerous than any rush hour.
“My entire culture has been alcohol. My entire life,” Bair said in a candid interview with 13News as he traced the arc of addiction that nearly destroyed him.
Bair recalled the moment when he first realized something was wrong.
“I was producing WIBC’s afternoon show ... and during that time, through the entire winter, I rode my bike to work and home,” Bair said. “And I remember ... I was right down here on the eastern spoke of Monument Circle. There are liquor stores everywhere in this area … and I'm like, ‘I'm going to go get a bottle of peach vodka.’ And then I thought, ‘You already have vodka at home right now. Why are you getting more?’ Well, that was going to be for the next day.”
