There's a big celebration going on this weekend in Haughville as Belmont Beach opened Saturday for its fifth year of operation. The stretch of the White River near West 16th Street became a segregated swimming area in the 1920s despite being polluted. A few years ago, the local community came together to clean up the beach and open it to the public.
