Description
On the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, in the spot where Sen. Robert Kennedy united people after King's death, Indianapolis city leaders broke ground on a project that will enhance the historic park.
"Indianapolis, is proud to start work on a project that will bring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park to new heights that will elevate this historic site to match its national significance and its invaluable legacy," Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said.
Renderings show what the park will look like when the $6.8 million project is done. Parkgoers will enjoy a new plaza, walkways and an expansion of the Landmark for Peace Memorial.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park is located at 1702 Broadway St., near 20th Street and North College Avenue on the city's near north side.
